Productivity Growth In Nigeria Manufacturing Industries And Its Correlation To Trade Policy Indexes:- Okpara Ogbonna W
Abstract
This paper examines the impact of productivity
growth in Nigeria manufacturing industries and its correlation with trade
policy indexes in Nigeria from 1981 – 2018. The objective of the study is to
ascertain productivity growth in Nigeria manufacturing industries and its
correlation with trade policy indexes. Secondary data were collected based on
the model used in the research work and unit root test was conducted on the
data to test their stationary, after which we perform co-integration test to analyze
the long run relationship among the variables. The result obtained from our
empirical analysis shows that trade policy indexes reforms has a significant
effect on manufacturing productivity in Nigeria and that manufacturing industry
productivity has no impact on economic growth in Nigeria. The study therefore
recommend that Nigeria should adopt more policies on trade liberalization like
reducing non-tariff barriers, reducing tariffs, reducing or eliminating quotas
that will enable the economy to grow at spectacular rates. Keywords: Trade
