Performance Of Finisher Broilers Fed Composite Cassava Meal Diets:- Ukpong, Sampson P.
ABSTRACT
A
four-week experiment was conducted with 108, five-week old Anak broilers to
evaluate the effect of composite cassava meal on growth performance of broiler
finisher birds. Six dietary treatments were formulated to contain 20% crude
protein, with composite cassava meal (CCM) replacing 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%
of the maize in the diets and designated treatments 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6,
respectively. The birds were randomly allotted to the six treatments at 18 per
treatment and 6 per replicate. Feed and water were provided ad libitum.
Parameters considered were feed intake, weight gain, final live weight, feed
conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio. Results showed that dietary
treatments significantly (P<0.05) affected daily feed intake, final live
weight, daily weight gain, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio.
Broilers fed diets 1, 2, 3, and 4 were similar in all performance parameters
but were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those fed diets 5 and 6. The
results obtained therefore indicated that CCM is a valuable non-conventional
feedstuff that could be substituted quantitatively Lip to 60% for maize without
any side effect on their performance
