ABSTRACT
This research work was evaluated
to investigate and assess the forms of motivation given to hotel industry
workers in Owerri metropolis, where the objectives of the study are: to find
out workers perceptions of the motivation they receive, to determine
perceptions of motivation along hotel class lines, to find out perceptions of
motivation along gender lines, to find out if age of the workers affects
perception of motivation, to determine turnover level along hotel class and to
identify perceived lapses in motivation of hotel workers. The result shows that
the respondents agreed to most of the motivations listed in figure 4 and that
motivation has great advantage and positive impact on the lives of the host

the finding of Fletcher (2005). Most of the hotel workers valued wages/salary
and Fringe benefits than other benefits but the result shows that most of the
staff are not satisfy with the salary they received. The result on the gender

benefits they received than their counterpart male, while that on the age limit
with respect to how they perceived the listed motivations/benefits showed that
most of the respondents between the age limit of 18 - 28years old positively
perceived the motivation/benefit followed by those between the age limit of 29
— 39years old. Further result showed that majority of the hotel workers or
staff agreed to the retention rate of 2012 but the result revealed that most of
the respondents appreciate finance as a benefit/motivation than materials thing
for future motivation. The result of the hypothesis one, where t-test analysis
