ABSTRACT

The network modellling (CPM and PERT) was used to profer a solution to the problem of inadequate portable water in rural communities in the thirty-one Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State, time estimates were the materials used to analyzed the duration of the project. The summarized result in Table 4.4 gave the optimal duration in hours: 26.92 for site preparation/mobilixation of geophysical surveying team, selection/analysis involved in the best water yielding point was 37.72 for conveying drilling team to the site, 168 for installation of submersible pump, 4.3 gravel packing/casting of the well platform, 1.2 for flusing water analysis was 26.92 while 78.04 was for commisioing of the project. Network analysis techniques was used to determine the normal duration of executing a submersible pump for deep water borehole project in rural areas of Akwa Ibom State as ranging within thirteen (13) days with an approximate cost of  four million, twelve thousand five hundred naira only (N4,012,500.00) as optimal construction cost. To ensure easy compliance with this duration and cost range, critical activities (jobs) that require close supervision/management attention during the construction were also determined. This approach forms a guide against costly technical mistakes. In addition, submersible pump  equipped deep water borehole is recommended as the best water supply source for Akwa Ibom rural communities due to its reliability in all seasons and its water is safe and requires little or no purification before use. The choice of submersible pump is to reduce the cost and to provide simple technology for easy maintenance /operation which is within the reach of rural dwellers. Also, the investigation was conducted and analyzed using network modeling procedures. The optimal duration in hours for the different jobs involved in this borehole construction including, site preparation/mobilization of geophysical survey team.
