ABSTRACT
This research study of modelling and analysis of a three
phase downward flow in a vertical pipe using Computational Fluid Dynamic
happens to be an important aspect in the flow system as it has to do with the
visual behavior of the fluids during its operation. The fluids under studied
are carbon dioxide (CO2), kerosene and water (H20) in the flow system. The
multiphase flow characteristics were studied at 25°c with the fluid properties
and the pressure drop and the behavioral pattern of the three fluids in the
vertical pipe during the operation were studied. VOF (volume of fluid) model
was applied to carry out the analysis on the two to three immiscible fluids
during CFD process for transient flow with the second order upwind and the
hybrid initialization using a time step size of 0.001 with number of time steps
of 10,000 iterations which gives the optimal solution as regards the standard
specifications. The pressure drop increases at different varied to the velocity
of the studied fluids. The contour behavior of the three fluid on the software
were studied in this research thereby saving time and the rigors of running the
analysis manually. This work is thus, recommended for the oil and gas sector to
save cost and time.
