ABSTRACT

This study seeks to exami , ne the management and preservation of electronic resources in academic libraries in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, library, the study make use of descriptive survey design, the total population is seventy-one (71), The four-point rating scale was be used in constructing the instrument. The data collected with the aid of a well-structured questionnaire and data was analyzed using simple descriptive and statistical tools which includes; frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation. The following findings was made that materials selection, digitization, preservation technology and regulation scanning of E-resources are the major methods used in the preservation of electronic resources in MOUA U library, that electronic resource administration, cataloguing of electronic resources, maintenance of electronic -resourl::es, storage of electronic resources and evaluating impact of electronic resources, that Inadequate ICT infrastructures/facilities, epileptic power supply and poor internet connectivity were some the challenges facing the preservation of electronic resources in MOUAU library. The researcher proffered the following recommendations that adequate funding should be provided for the medical library to facilitate its services, that academic libraries should also explore alternative sources of revenue to argument her allocation, that adequate staff training and retraining should be encourage in-order to enhance their service delivery, that there should be effecti-qe implementation of management policies in Nigeria academic libraries in-order to improve the utilization of library resources and that it is important for academic librarians in Nigeria to design library websites to provide links to their electronic/online resources and web/internet based services.
