ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to discover the
different leadership style that is being adopted by some selected organization
in Abia State and also the effect of this leadership styles on employee
perfonnance. In carrying out the study, a total of one hundred and eighty
questionnaires were administered to the two organizations in Ahia State. Simple
percentage method was in analysing the data coJJected from the respondents
based on the response on the questionnaire. This revealed that the leadership style
differs based on the type of leadership the leaders feel enhances the employee
productivity but the leadership style that the organization adopts mostly is
the Democratic. In determining the influence of this leadership style on the
performance of the employees of the organizations, correlation analysis was
used to determine the strength of the relationship that exists between the
leadership styles and employee performance and it revealed that there is a
strong relationship i.e. leadership style influences the employees'
performance. The factors responsible for the choice of leadership style which
includes size of the organization, degree of interaction, personality of
members and concern to members' satisfaction made a positive impact to the
leadership style .
