ABSTRACT
This study examined Job satisfaction among
Academic Librarians in Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana, Ebonyi state.
The study was guided by five research Questions The research design was
descriptive survey with a population of 25 comprising professional librarians
in Akanu Ibiam Federal Poolytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi State. A complete census
was usedfor the study because the population was small and manageable,
therefore no sampling was used. The instrumentfor data collection was
questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed in line with four point likert
rating scale. Twenty five copies of the Questionnaire were administered ofwhich
the twentyfive (25) copies were correctlyfilled and returned showing 100 %
response rate. Data was analyzed using mean and standard deviation in line with
statistical package for social science (spss). Thefindings ofthe study revealed
that Good Leadership style, career advancement, Conducive work environment,
employee promotion opportunities. Employee recognition and Remuneration are the
factors that improve level ofjob satisfaction. The study also revealed that the
majorfactors that constitute the level ofjob satisfaction are engagement,
respect, praise and appreciation, fair compensation, motivation and life satisfaction
while the variousfactors that improve productivity in library are Prompt
payment ofsalaries, good employee-management relationship, allowances, in
service training and workshops/seminars. Furthermore, the finding showed that
the majorfactor militating against Job satisfaction and productivity is delay
in payment ofsalaries while others are unfavorable working Environment, lack
ofemployee recognition and appreciation, undemocratic leadership style,
corruption etc. The following recommendations were made to remedy the problems;
motivation ofAcademic librarians while discharging their duties, increment of
salaries as well as prompt payment ofsalaries, good working Environment in
order to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently, appreciation andpromotion
ofstaffamong others
