Insecticidal Property Of Leaf Powders Of Artemesia Annua And Ocimum Gratissimum Against Rice Weevil Sitophilus Oryzae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)
ABSTRACT
Rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae is the most important insect
pest of stored Rice in Africa. (Heinrichs and Miller 1991). The enormity of the
weight loss, reduced viability and reduced commercial value of the grains due
to the attack by S. oryzae is well investigated in the laboratory. (Kermel and
Zewar 1983). The control of S. oryzae with synthetic insecticides is effective
and have been practiced by farmers to avoid loss of' stored rice. The use of
plant products (whole plants, parts or powders) by farmers to protect rice
against storage pests has been investigated and useful for many farmers (Dales
1996)
