ABSTRACT
Insects
utilizing decaying plantain pseudo stems in Michael Okpara University and
Isochi autonomous community were investigated from July 2018- September 2018.
Investigation was done by cutting pseudo stems of plantain; allow them to decay
before picking and sorting out insect or the macrovertebrates insect invades.
orders were encountered. A total of 376 insect species were recovered as at the
time of this study. Celeoptera species has the highestest members; Round beetle
has the highest prevalence in the order72 (19.2%) followed by cosmopolites
sordidus 37 (9.2%) Temnoschiota species 15(4.0%) while the least record was for
earwig 25(14.4%) and Earth worms 92(52.%) (belonging to order Demptera (class
insect) and class olisochatae (phylum annelid). C. sordidus was common in
bottle locations and this indicate that crop residue play a role in maintaining
pest population in any term land. The result of the study shows that same
insect invades are common in plantain pseudastem in both location. Though
diffining in number. There was no significant difference in the invertebrate
population in both communities. The presence of C. sardidus may further
buttress on the need for proper disposal of crop residues in order to eliminate
pest population
