Incidence of overweight and obesity among primary and secondary school children in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
ABSTRACT
Overweight and obesity
are global public health problem because of their effect on individuals,
families and communities. It is estimated that about one billion people are
overweight and more than 300 million obese worldwide (WHO, 2012). The
fundamental cause of obesity and overweight is an energy imbalance between
calories consumed and calories expended. Globally, there has been an increased
intake of energy dense foods that are high in fat and an increase in physical
inability due to the increasingly sedentary nature of many forms of work,
changing modes of transportation and increasing urbanization (WHO, 2013).
