ABSTRACT

 The study examined the impact of inflation on economic growth from 2000 to 2018. The specific objectives were to ascertain the impact of inflation on gross domestic product in Nigeria, to determine the impact of exchange rate on gross domestic product in Nigeria, to determine of. lending rate on gross domestic product in Nigeria and to determine the impact money supply on gross domestic product in Nigeria. The study adopted ex-post facto research design. The data was sourced from central bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bulletin and it was analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The result revealed that unit root test confirmed that two of the variable in the model was stationary at level difference (INFRT and GRGDP), and others are i.e EXR LR and MS are non stationary at level diference and indeed they are random walk, integrated of order one and ii shows that the two hypothesis are not accepted and that result for the impact of inflation on economic growth in Nigeria was found to have an insignificant and positive relationship with economic growth. Economically, higher inflation rate causes economic growth. Production is being increased to meet increased demand. Higher production leads to a lower unemployment rate, further fueling around demand, increased wages leads to higher demand as consumers spend money.freely. This leads to higher GDP combined with inflation. ft was recommended that urgent need for effective monitoring of inflation rate to allow for acceleration of economic growth. This is necessary for its positive effects on the economic growth
