ABSTRACT

 The study investigated the impact of government expenditure on infrastructural development in Nigeria covering the period of 1980 to 2017. the objectives of the study were to examine if government expenditure on construction have any significant impact on Real Gross Domestic Product (RDGP) in Nigeria, to ascertain if there is a significant impact between government expenditure on transportation and Real Gross Domestic Product (RDGP) in Nigeria, to evaluate if there is a significant impact between government expenditure on education and Real Gross Domestic Product (RDGP) in Nigeria and to investigate if there is a significant between government expenditure on health and Real Gross Domestic Product (RDGP) in Nigeria. The study employed Ordinary Leas Square technique. Thus revealed that education expenditure has no significant effect on the growth rate of gross domestic product in Nigeria and it is positive and health expenditure is negatively related to the growth rate of domestic product in Nigeria and it has no significant relationship. Based on the findings. the study recommended that; public expenditure on education is positively related to the growth rate of gross domestic product but not significant which might be as a result of non-allocation of funds to the education sector. Therefore the government should allocate a greater portion of the annual budget to the education sector. Health expenditure is not positively related to the growth rate of gross domestic product. Therefore the public expenditure on health should be improved through appropriate macroeconomic policies such as budgeting to sustain and improve longevity of individuals in the society. Usually good health for all will contribute to the nation's economic growth.
