Impact Of Capital Market On The Growth Of The Nigerian Economy :- Uchegbu Kelechi M
Abstract
This paper examines the impact ofcapital market on economic growth in Nigeriafrom 1981 - 2018. The objective ofthe study is to look at the impact oftotal value ofstock and all share index which captures the activities ofthe capital market on the economic growth in Nigeria. Secondary data were collected based on the model used in the research work and unit root test was conducted on the data to test their stationary, after which we perform co-integration test to analyze the short-run and long run relationship among the variables. The result obtained from our empirical analysis shows that there is significant longrun relationship between capital market and the Nigerian economy. The study therefore recommends that there is needfor the government through the central bank to implement policy that will increase the level and size ofmarket capitalization in the capital market. Such increase in capital market will provide the needed funds for investors for further investments and hence increased productivity in Nigeria.
