ABSTRACT

This experiment was carried out to study the haematological and biochemical values and relative organ weights of eighteen red Sokoto goats, 5-6 months of age, fed diastic microbes degraded municipal organic waste. The treated feed produced was included at the following levels Ta (0% treated municipal organic waste), Tb (45% treated municipal organic waste) and Tc (70% treated municipal organic waste). The trial lasted for 42 days. The mean Hb (g/dl), PCV (%), MCV (pm3) RBC (10x6ml) and WBC (mm3) were 0.95g/dl, 2.84%, 2.63pm3, 0.51xl06ml, 0.16x10mm3, respectively. There were significant differences (P<0.05) observed in the Hb, with Tc (ll.OOg/dl) having the highest value while TA and TB had (lO.OOg/dl) and (5.00g/dl). There were significant differences (P<0.05) observed in the PCV, with Tc (33.00%) having the highest value while TA and TB had (30.00%) and (15.00%). There were also significant differences (P<0.05) observed in the MCV, with Tc (53.22pm3) having the highest value while TA and Tb had (50.00 pm3) and (38.40 pm3) respectively .There were no significant differences (P>0.05) in RBC and WBC in the 3 treatments. There were significant differences (P<0.05) in Total protein, with Tb (5.14g/dl) having the highest value while TA and Tc had (4.40g/dl) and (3.60g/dl), There were significant differences (P<0.05) in Globulin, with TB (2.0g/dl) having the highest value while Ta and Tc had (1.00g/dl) and (0.70g/dl) and There were significant differences (P<0.05) in Urea, with Tb (21.00g/dl) having the highest value while TA and Tc had (40.00g/dl) and (0.70g/dl). No significant differences (P>0.05) observed in Albumin and Creatinine in the 3 treatments. The Scrum urea was highest in the goats in Tb (150.00g/dl), resulting in the increased weight of the kidney and the packed cell volume of treatment A and C, fell within the range of values for red Sokoto goats. This shows good working condition ofthe heart.
