Field Evaluation Of Seed Oils Of Piper Guineense And Jatropha Curcas For The Control Of Ootheca Mutabilis (Sahi.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). In Umudike, South Eastern Nigeria.
ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted during the 2005-cropping season at Michael Okpara university oF Agricullure, umudIke Research Farm 10 evaluate the seed oils of .Jairopha curcas and l'iper guinccnse for the control of Ootheca inulabilis. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments consisted of 2.5% and 5% Piper guineense applied weekly and fortnightly, 2.5% and 5% of Jairopha curcas applied weekly and fortnightly, 2.5% of Synthetic (Dichiorvos) insecticide applied fortnightly and control (untreated plots). Results obtained in the experiment showed that 1'iper guineense had no significant dilThrencc () when compared to synthetic (Dichiorvos) insecticide. But there was significant difference between P. guineense and Jairopha curcas (P<0.05). This study suggests that there is an advantage in control of Ootheca mutabilis with P. guincense at 5% (P><0.05) fortnightly. Based on the result of this study the use of seed oil of Piper guineense could be used iii integrated pest management (1PM) programmes For the control of Ootheca inulabilis. >
