additional income generationfor improving library services in academic
libraries: The case study was Michael Okpara University ofAgriculture Library,
Umudike. The study was born as a result ofthe dwindling andpoorfunding
ofacademic libraries. In order to make credible research, the study was guided
by five (5) research objectives as well as five (5) research questions.
Literatures were reviewed under conceptual framework; empirical studies and
summary of the reviewed related literature. Consequently, the study adopted a
combination of case study method, with a population ofseventy-one (71) made up
offorty (40) library staff(professionals and Para-professionals ad support
staff) and (1) lecturersfrom the Department of Library and Information Science
of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. Neither sample nor
sampling technique was involved, as the entire population was used. A
researcher-made questionnaire was usedfor data collection. Data collected were
analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean scores and standard deviation and
presented in frequency tables. The study evaluated the present method
ofrevenue-generation and found out that there is an over-dependence on
fundingfrom the parent institution. It was also revealed that the 10% NUC
recommendation is not being implemented in the library. Different methods
werefound out to be meansfor generating additional income such as overdue and
otherfines; reprographic/photocopying services, charges for Internet access,
digitization/e-library services, library advocacy, bindery services,
international donors, endowments, and reach-out programs to NGOs. It was also
found out that these methods have numerous benefits. There are also challenges
to these methods as well as solutions to overcoming them. Findings werefurther
discussed in the light ofother studies. Recommendations were made based on the
findings, including the adoption of the methods of additional income generation
