Abstract
paper
discussed the entrepreneurial opportunities that exist for Library and
Information Science rofessionals (LIS) in the contemporary Nigeria. It started
by painting an ugly picture of the unemployment problems in the contemporary,
Nigeria. The paper recognizes that the sure way to stem the tide of
unemployment for graduates in general and LIS professionals in particular are
through entrepreneurship. In tire discussion proper. the paper explains tire
meaning of entrepreneurship, entrepreneur; who LIS professionals are and what
they do; trends in the education of LIS professionals, which has resulted to
the soaring rate of unemployment in the profession. Tire paper identified
information brokering or information business. publishing. bookshop and
bookstore business, organization of consultancy services and establishment and
operation of subscription libraries as entrepreneurial opportunities that exist
in the profession.
