ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to appraise the USC of a single phase feeding regimen in broiler chicken production. Two animal protein sources blood meal and fish meal were used to formulate the treatment diets. Three isonitrogenious and isocaloric diets with 21% CP and 3440 1(cal/kg ME were formulated. The control (diet A) contained none of the animal protein sources while diets 13 and C contain 6% blood meal and fish meal respectively. '[he parameter measured include average daily feed intake, average daily weight gain FCR, carcass characteristics and economics of production. After six weeks of' straight feeding, data collected and analyzed indicated that birds fed diet C consumed more fecd( 133.44g) (P< 0.05) than those on diet A (121.06g) while those on diet B(1329.63g) were an intcrphasc between A and C groups. 'l'hc birds fed diet C also had highcr(50.59g) (P< 0.05) daily weight gain than those on diet A (44.87g) and B (48.84g). Feed conversion ratio was better in diet C (2.64) group than A(2.70) but similar (P > .05) to diet B group (2.66). I)resscd weight of birds fed diet C (1473.67g) was also higher (P< 0.05) than those fed diet A (1329.40g) and B (1465.33g). Other carcass parameter, dressing percentage and cut parts were similar (P > 0.05) for the three groups. Economic analysis showed that feed cost and cost per kg weight gain were higher (P< 0.05) in diet C (N290.00) than in diet A (N 253.67) and B (N 228.76) groups. Revenue per bird and gross margine were higher (P< 0.05) in diet 13 (N 979.67 and N 500.83) group than diet A (N 864.1 1 and N 375.38) and C (N 957.88 and N 329.54) groups. in conclusion fast growing broiler chicken for eatery houses can better he achieved with a straight diet of 23% Cl and 2940 Kcal/kg ME uSing blood meal as aniinal proteiii source.
