Effect of Conservation and Preservation of Print Information Resources in University Libraries: a Case Study Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike Library:- Ezekiel, Kalu S.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to ascertain the
conservation and preservation methods used in Michael Okpara University of
Agriculture Umudike library, identify the causes of print deterioration in
library, and find out various strategies in conservation and preservation of
print information resources in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
Umudike library. The research design for the study is descriptive survey. The
population of the study is 69 and the sample technique is complete census.
Instrument for data collection is questionnaire. 69 copies of the
questionnaires were distributed to 69 MOUAU Library staff were all returned
representing 100%. To analyse data, Statistical Package for Social Science
(SPSS 20.00), standard deviation and criterion mean were used. Frequency table
was used for data presentation. The findings revealed that the state which is the
basis for accepting data, methods used in conservation and preservation of
print information resources were strongly agreed by the respondents this shows
that there is a high need to continue conservation and preservation of print
information resources in MOUA U Library. Based on the research findings,
adequate funding, space and more skilled staff should be made available in
MOUAU Library. The research concludes that intensive concentration should be on
print resources in other to avoid further deterioration.
