Economics Of Cassava Processing Among Small Scale Processors In Nkanu-East, Enugu State, Nigeria
ABSTRACT
The study analyzed the economics
of cassava processing among small scale processors in Nkanu East Local
Government area of Enugu state, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study
were to; identify the socio economic characteristics of the respondents,
identify the various cassava value added products available in the study area,
determine the costs and returns from cassava processing, estimate the
determinants of profitability in cassava processing function, Identify the
constraints to cassava processing in the area. Data were collected by means of
multistage random sampling technique from 60 cassava processors in the study
area through a well-structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using
descriptive statistical tools such as table, percentage, mean and frequencies,
gross margin analysis as well as multiple regression analysis. In the result of
the regression analysis on the determinants of profitability in cassava
processing function exponential functional form was chosen as the lead equation
based on highest R value and number of significant variables. It showed that
processing' experience, volume of sales, cost of processing and price of
substitute were significant. The research also made some recommendations based
on findings
