ABSTRA CT

In a study, the nutrient digestibility and nitrogen utilization of WAD goats were evaluated using 4 (four) WAD bucks assigned to 4 (four) forage mixtures comprising of Panicum Maximum and Anthocleista djalonnensis at the ration of 80:20 (T), 60: 40 (T,), 40:60 (T,) and 20:80 (T). The bucks averaging 13.5kg initially were confined in 4 metabolism cages designed for separate collection of faeces and urine. Each buck received the forages diet in a 4x4 by .7 days of . total collection of faeces and urine. Samples of the P. Maximum, A. Djalonnesis, forage mixtures and faeces were analysed for DM, CP, CF, ash, E.E and energy through proximate methods. Results showed that the DM of the .forage mixtures ranges from 69.85 in Ty to 70.29 in T4. The CP also varies from 11.03-12.59 (T, - T) while T, recorded the highest energy value of 1.89 MJ/kgDM. Except for energy, all the other nutrient evaluated did not vary statistically (P>0.05). T, recorded the highest energy digestibility (81.11%) when compared to the other treatments. The nitrogen utilization study showed that there was no significant differences (P>0.05) in all the parameters evaluated. All the bucks were in positive nitrogen balance. It could be concluded that A. Djalonnensis improved utilization of P. Maximum and therefore should be used to supplement grasses fed to ruminants.
