ABSTRACT

The study investigate the coping strategies adopted by working mothers in dealing with their home management activities in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State. Six (6) research questions was formulated in other to achieve the findings and survey research design was used for the study. Two hundred (200) working mothers were randomly selected out of the entire population of working mothers in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State. The result reveals that (77.54%) of working mothers are from polygamous family, (8.55%) are from single parent family, (2.14%) are from blended family, (2.14%) are from adopted family. The result revealed that majority of the respondents (80.2 1%) has househelp while (19.7%) of working mothers has nanny. The result shows that (26.74%) of working mothers are from beginning family, (53.48%) are from expanded family life cycle, and (19.79%) are from contracting stage of family life cycle. The result reveals that most of the respondents agreed on mean responses on strategies adopted in copping with feeding the family, managing family clothing, childcare, family relationship in the home, family health and management strategies you would suggest.for working mothers. Finally, the result also revealed in ANOVA Result of differences in mean responses on strategies adopted in coping with feeding the family, managing the family clothing, child care, family relationship in the home, family health and management strategies you would suggest for working mothers shows that there is significant differences and there is no significant differences in comparing the items. Finally, it is recommended that this findings should made available through enlightenment of seminar, workshops, conference, women meeting, church programmes to working mothers, non-working mothers, youths (spinsters) who are not married and also to the husband (fathers) who think and believed that the only major function in the family is provide money for family feeding and family needs
