ABSTRACT
This study investigates the contributions of
solid minerals to economic growth of Nigeria (198 l - 2018) using the ordinary
least square method which incorporates endogenity in its estimation, the unit
root test was carried out for each of the variables using the ADF (Augmented
Dickey Fuller) which shows that all variables i.e. RGDP, SM, EXR, CAPAC are
stationary at 1! difference. The cointegraton was also conducted to determine
if there exists a long run relationship among variables. Finding from the study
shows that solid mineral has a positive and a significant impact on economic
growth, exchange rate has a positive and a significant impact on economic
growth, while capital accumulation has a positive but insignificant impact on
economic growth. The study recommends among others that Solid mineral
management should he provided in the yearly budget with a separate head for the
purpose of adequate revenue allocation, implementation and monitoring. There is
need to enhance environmental public enlightenment and public participation as
it affects solid minerals not only through the radio, television and print
media but also through grassroots enlightenment campaigns. Public private
partnership is highly encouraged in solid minerals and environmental management
while government should commit itself to sponsoring more research projects into
the reduction of solid waste at source, collection and efficient disposal.
