Comparative Performance Of High And Low Weight Lines Of F, Backcross Normal Feather, Naked Neck And Frizzle Hybrid Chicken In The Humid Tropics:- Okoro, Ogechi G.
ABSTRACT
A
study was conducted to evaluate the performance of high and low weight lines of
F, backcross normal feather, naked neck and frizzle chicken in the humid
tropics. Result revealed that HNL and HFL individuals weighed I 128.1g, I
108.3g which is significantly (p<0.05) more than low weight I ines
counterparts, which weighed 579.6g, 566.7g respectively. Average daily feed
intake (ADFI) was also significantly higher for the heavy lines with HNL which
weighed highest consuming more feed than other lines. The linear body
measurements were generally higher for the heavy weight lines except LNaL which
had significantly longer body length than other lines. The growth co-efficient
was high and positive for all genotypes although the HFL showed more uniform
growth performance within the genetic groups. In general, mortality rates were
high in the brooding phase than in the goring phase for all the genotypes. The
HFL individual; had the highest mortality rates among the genotypes.
