ABSTRACT
The effect of feeding different levels of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisae) on growth performance, blood constituents and organ histology of broiler was studied. An experiment of 28 days duration was conducted with a flock of 90, day old chicks. There were 3 dietary treatments each consisting of 3 replicates with 10 birds in each. The treatments contained 0g/ kg (control) in Ti, 1. 5g/ kg in T2 and 2. 5g / kg yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisae) in T3. Data were collected for bdy weight, weekly gain, daily feed intake, total feed intake, and feed conversion ratio. On day 28, concentration of PCV (packed cellolume), RBC (red blood cell), WBC (white blood cell), and MCV (mean corpuscular volUme), and MCHC (mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration) in chicks blood were evaluated, and also organs: liver and kidney were taken for histo1ogical examination. Results showed no significant difference (p>O.05J in all the growth parameters measured. For haematological • indices: PCV, RBC, WBC, MCV and MCHC showed no significant difference (p>O.05). T2 (8.33) was significantly higher (p<O.05) than Ti (6.80) and T3 (7.80) in Hb. There was no toxic effect or damage in the organs.
