Communication Process And The Effectiveness Of Agricultural Block Extension Supervisors In Cross River State.
ABSTRACT
This study examined the relationship between communication activities of extension supervisors,
for any significant association, with their effectiveness on guiding field agricultural extension agents. To describe the communication pattern of rural extension supervisors and agents. Two sets of questionnaires were used in collecting information from 108 respondent' comprising 28 block supervisors and 80 extension agents in Calabar, Ikom and Ogoja Zones in Cross River State. Percentages, means and multiple regression analysis were used in analysing and presenting the results. It was found that hock supervisors who communicated more frequently with their extension agents and spanned their boundary were more effective in supervising agents. It was also found that face to face method of communication was predominant in extension set up. To enhance supervision effectiveness it was recommended that superior officer's in extension set up should encourage field staff to use varied communication methods in passing information among themselves. Again, materials and equipment necessary for the use of additional communication methods should be made available to block supervisors, Z 0 and extension agents.
