Abstract
The
study was designed to investigate the influence of Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) in users' patronage of academic libraries in
Abia State. The study adopted the Survey Research Design. while the sample
consisted of 360 tegistered library users drawn from a population of 3500
registered library users from the four academic institutions in. Abia State
namely; Abia State University, Uturu, Michael Okpara University of
Agrirnlt11re, Uniudike; Abia State Polytechnic, Aba and Abia State College of
Education Technical, Arochukwu. Data for the study were provided through a
researcher -developed questionnaire: ICT and Users Patronage of Information
Services of Academic Libraries (ICTUPIS), Data analyses involved the use of
percentages, while hypotheses were tested, using t-test statistics. The result
of the study showed that there was high availability of /CT in academic
libraries in Abia State. Simila riv, it was found that ICT positively
influenced users' patronage of academic libraries in Abia State. The researcher
recommends among other things that managers of academic: libraries should as a
matter of policy provide ICT in information services of the libraries,
especially OPAC for improved users' patronage and application of /CT to
services of academic libraries should form one of the requirements of National
Universities Commission (NUC) and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
during accreditation of programmes.
