ABSTRACT
Automated Drug Tracking Information System is a set of
computer programs that obtains the supplies of drugs, distribute the drugs and
monitors the inventory control of the drugs. The pharmaceutical department of
University of Nigerian Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu is used as a case study.
I was motivated to embark on this research because the department uses manual
method to operate drugs related operations, which lacks good storage system for
drugs recording. The system tends to be complex and the method of tracking
expired drug is poor. The good approach to this problem is to involve the use
of computer by designing an information system. The objectives are to develop a
platform for real time automated drug tracking information system, to build a
database structure used to store information about drug using SQLite database,
design a platform that helps to order for require drugs, create a module for taking
good stock of drugs, create a platform that help to track dispensary of expired
drugs. This research was
realized through the adoption of primary and secondary sources of data
collection which includes interview,
observation, questionnaire, the internet and journals. The system was
developed using Java for designing and implementation of the program system to
enable accurate record keeping of drug to track expired drug. This guarantees
the people the right to good health care and ensures that drugs received are
genuine and safe
