ABSTRACT

Caladium bicolor is a genus of flowering plant in the family of Araceace, it is a medicinal plant mostly used in the herbal medicine to cure convulsion and body decolouration Its biological activities were studied here. Cold ethanol extract in leaves of a caladium bicolor were investigated on Anti-Inflammatory and Diuretic activities in albino rats that were compared with the standard drugs Apithin (300mg/kg) and Furosemide (100mg/kg) respectively. The extract were administered based on high and 1ow doses,1000rng,500mg,250mg, 125mg, 62mg and 31 mg. the extracts of caladium bicolor leaves produced a doses-dependent inhibition of acid-induced rat paw oedema, a parameter to show that it has antiinflammatory activity. The extracts at high concentratQn were found to induce inflammation with time interval and as well as reduces Diuretics activity Highest iuhibitions wero seen in extract with high dose In Diwctics it shows a low reduction at high concentration of 1000mg and 500mg respectively. This result clearly indicates that ethanol extract of caladium bicolor leaves at high concentration are comparable to Aspirin and Furosemide that were used as a standard. This founding also indicate that extract of caladium bicolor causes a decrease in Diuretics activities due to its high potassium content and also induce inflammation due to its high saponin content. keywords: leave of a oaladium bicolor, antis inflammatory activities diuretics activities ethanol extract, fresh egg albumen, Aspirin, furosemide.
