Analysis On The Effect Of Fertilizer On Yam Yield (A Case Study Of National Roots And Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike:- Kalu, Chinyere F
ABSTRACT
The declining trend in yam produce highlights the
need for a statistical study to determine the effect of fertilizer on yam yield
as well as the best agronomy management options available for increase yam
productivity. This project addresses the above issue by analyzing the effect of
three different types of fertilizers (NPK12:12:17:2mg, NPK15:15:15,
NPK20:10:10) on the yield of yam in National Root Crop Research Institute,
Umudike using one-way ANOVA. Significant effect ofthe fertilizers were observed
on yam (i.e., yam tuber yield), showing that the three treatments (three
different types of fertilizers) were significantly different. Therefore, there
is a need to carry out the multiple comparison tests to detect which pair of
treatments is significantly different. The Duncan Multiple Range Test was used
to carry out this test. The result shows that there is a significant difference
between treatment 1 and 3, but there is no significant difference between
treatments 1 and 2, also treatments 2 and 3. Hence, of the three types of
fertilizers, the NPK12:12:17:2mg fertilizer has the best effect on yam and
therefore, it is recommended for optimum yam yield.
