ABSTRACT

Since the oil crisis in 1970sth, the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth has been a hot issue in domestic and foreign academic research. This interest has been stimulated by the persistent increase in the awareness of global warming and climate change. Government, professionals and academics alike are concerned about the impact of energy consumption on the economy, this stimulated the •need for this research which centered on the analysis of the impact of energy consumption and aggregate economic activity in Nigeria In analyzing the above research, the researcher adopted the following objectives including; ascertaining if energy consumption has any significant impact on Nigeria's real GDP per capita growth, determining if there is a causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth. Thus, research questions and research hypotheses were structured in accordance with the specific objectives. In a bid to achieve a meaningful research study work, this research reviewed related literatures" on the impact of debt and the Nigerian economy. Which were sub-divided into three subheadings such conceptual framework, theoretical framework and empirical review. However, in the quest lo perfect this research; ex-post facto research design was adopted. Thus, the data gathered were analyzed using multiple regression. The analysis however made the following findings; that there is decrease in Real Gross Domestic Product as a result of increase in energy consumption and decrease in energy generation within the years under review. Sequel to the findings and conclusion, the research made the following recommendations; Since there is significant relationship between energy consumption and economic activity, energy should be improved.
