ABSTRACT
This study
attempt was to ascertain the impact offederal government health
expenditure on gross domestic product, infant mortality rate and maternal
mortality rate in Nigeria using time series data obtainedfrom the World
Development Indicator ofthe World Bank and the Central Bank ofNigeria Statistical
Bulletin for the period 1981 to 2018. Owing to the objective of the study,
three models were developed and analyzed using the ordinary least squares
method. It reveals that federal government expenditure has a positive and
significant relationship with gross domestic product in Nigeria.lt was also
discovered that federal government health expenditure has a negative and
significant relationship with infant mortality rate in Nigeria as increases in
federal government health spending results in a reduction in infant mortality
rate in Nigeria. It recommends Federal government should increase and
restructure the public health allocation to the health sector in order to
provide more health facilities, drugs, laboratories, equipment, among others,
it also government should introduce programmes that will cause awareness
concerning the effect of carbon dioxide emissions on individual’s health
and should advice people and industries on how to deal with it. Government
investment on health should be sustained rather than been left at the
mercy ofmarket due to its roles in human capital development necessaryfor
development. An empirical analysis of Federal Government Health Budgetary
Allocation on Economic Growth in Nigeria using the Gross Domestic Product,
Infant Mortality Rate, Federal Government Health Expenditure, Maternal
