A Study Of Tile Different Kinds Of Mosquitoe Found In Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike.
ABSTRACT
A study of different kinds of
mosquitoes found in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Abia
State was carried out from August to September 2008. Three kinds of mosquito
genera; Anopheles, Culex and Aedes were identified. Of the three genera
identified, Anopheles (45.4% ) and Culex (33.5%) were more prevalent than Aedes
(21.1%) and this was because the University has more location that encouraged
the growth of Anopheles and Culex mosquitoes than Aedes mosquitoes. In general,
female mosquitoes (50.74%) were more prevalent than the male (49.30%) and this
could have been as a result of a number of factors discussed in chapter four.
The three genera identified as Anopheles, Culex and Aedes are vectors of
important parasitic diseases which means that there is more susceptibility to
these parasitic infection most especially by students in the university unless
the environmental sanitation is improved.
