A Multiple Linear Regression Model For Predicting New Born Baby's Weight
ABSTRACT
Birth Weight is an important
determinant of child survival and development. It is also a subject of clinical
and epidemiological investigation. This study was aimed to fit a regression
model that is appropriate for predicting the weight of a new born baby, also to
determine the relationship between the birth weight, the mother pre-pregnancy
weight and number of children ever born by the mother so that suitable
recommendation can be made to prevent LBW and HBW in various hospitals. The
data used for this study is a secondary data collected from Federal Medical
Centre Umuahia among 60 delivery live born neonate in study place. All babies
were weighed within 24 hours after the birth. The data was analyze using
Regression Analysis with the help of MINITAB 16 result obtained from the model
WB=0.812+O.0282W.M+0.174N.0 suggested that there exist a positive linear
relationship between the weight of the baby, the weight of mother and the
number of children ever born by the mother which in turn we help parents to
keep a healthy pregnancy and avoid diseases attached to it.
