Water Quality Assement Of The Iyi Umaroko River, Eziama, Ubakala, Abia State On Its Suitability For Irrigation:- Palmer Desire O

ABSTRACT

Pollution has posed a major challenge in our environment, affecting the drinking water sources as well as the farm land for agriculture in Nigeria and beyond. The cause and effect relationship between a water constituent and the observed problem then results in an evaluation of quality of degree of acceptability. The study of the quality assessment of lyi Umaroko River, Eziama, Ubakala for irrigation purposes was carried out. The physiochemical parameter analysed include Temperature, Turbidity, total, dissolved solids, Electrical conductivity, Alkalinity, Acidity, Salinity, pH, Chloride, Total Hardness, Sulphate, Phosphate, sodium, potassium absorption ratio. Though there were high rate of industrial and domestic activities around the vicinity, the lyi Umaroko River, Eziama, Ubakala poses no risk for irrigation farming. Based on the observations, we recommend that farmers in and around lyi Umaroko River, Eziama, Ubakala should be free to use the river as source for irrigation farming since the water pose no danger to both the soil and crops as the parameters analysed are all within acceptable range for irrigation purposes
