ABSTRACT

The life ofanimals is sustained by two main fluids the semen and the blood, both ofwhich contain very valuable seeds oflife, their cells or cellular components. Let us briefly consider them. Sexual reproduction in man and animals makes life possible and ensures the perpetuation of species. The mating between a male and a female was the only way that young offspring could be brought into the earth. I said 'was' because advances in the science ofreproduction and breeding has brought into practice nuclear transfer from somatic cells and generation of embryos from cells other than sex cells (Wilmut, et a/., 2000). Through cloning we can have 'normal' individuals produced without fertilization ofthe ovum by the sperm. However, even in vitro fertilization (IVF) which accounts for most ofthe embryos generated from through biotechnology, there is still the need for the male and female to produce the sperm and the ovum forthe generation ofembryos. Semen is made up ofsperm cells (the seeds) and seminal plasma (the water). That is, semen = sperm+ seminal plasma. Science as we know it tod
