The Use Of Electronic Database By Undergraduate Students Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike.

ABSTRACT

The study examined the use of electronic database by undergraduate students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike(MOLJAU).The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Also, the primary source of data through the use of a well drafted questionnaire was adopted for this study with a sample size of 177 respondents comprising of undergraduate students oF Library and Information Science I)cpartrnent in MOUAU. The empirical findings emanating from this study revealed that the level of students' knowledge in the use of electronic database is low. This implies that students rarely use electronic database except for researches and educational purpose. I lowever, the types of electronic database that are available and common in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, library are 'IlINART and AGORA databases'. Other such as TEEAL, OARE, ARI)I and EBSCO Host are also uncommon. It is therefore recommended that the Library and Information Science(LIS) department should match their classroom learning with sufficient practical applications as this will boost students' proficiency in the use of electronic database. The Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Urnudike Library and the university Managment should address the challenge of inadequate ICT facilities, epileptic power source by getting a standby power plant. Also, there should be adequate orientation on the use of electronic databases.
