The Influences Of Divorce On Children And Family In Owerri North L.G.A Of Imo State

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the influences of divorce on children and the family at large. The population of the study consisted of 280,000 people which include married men and women, youths, divorcees, clergy men, traditional rulers and specialist in family studies. However, 315 copies of questionnaires were shared to 5 selected communities: Urata, Agbala, Nnaze, Ulakwo and Egbelu all in Owerri-North L.G.A. after which, 250 copies was retrieved and it served as the researcher's primary data. However, the objectives of this study helped the researcher to form his research questions and percentages were used to analyze the data collected. This study found that divorce is on the increase in the study area (Owerri North L.G.A). This study equally investigated the contributions of divorce to the wide spread of HI V/AIDS. It also captured the psychological effect of divorce on the development of children. Similarly likely causes of divorce were outlined as well as possible ways through which divorce situations can be handled. In a related finding, positive impacts of divorce among disturbed families in Owerri North L.G.A were discovered.
