The Influence Of Tourism Development On The Lifestyle Of The Host Communities Of Nike Lake Resort, Enugu State

ABSTRACT

This research work was on the influence of tourism development on the lifestyle of the host communities of Nike Lake Resort, Enugu state. The main objective of this research work is to study the impact of tourism development on the host communities of Nike Lake Resort, Enugu state. While other specific objectives are: to determine the impact of tourism development on the sociocultural lives of the host communities, to examine the impact of tourism devel9pment on the economic lives of the host communities, to ascertain the likely problems of tourism development on the host communities, to evaluate the various ways 'the impact has affected the sustainability of the local social lives on the 'host communities and to make necessary recommendations. A well structured questionnaire was used in gathering the relevant data, percentage and frequency was used to analyze the data generated for the study. The result of the study revealed that tourism development has positive influence on the host community of Nike Lake Resort in Enugu State. The study also shows that tourism development has positive influence on the culture lives of the local culture of the host community. And the ways the tourism development has affected the sustainability of the host community are creation of new job, earn foreign earning, cause social development, has economic breakthrough and recognition of value system. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: that the State Government should harness these sites and make the road accessible for high rate of tourists flow in Enugu state, that all the tourism destinations should maintain their sites through proper hygiene such as pruning, cleaning the environment in an effective way to promote the tourism destinations in order to bring these tourism destination in Enugu state to the globally acceptable standard.
