The Comparative Study Of The Landings Of Artisanal And Trawler Fisheries From The Nigerian Coastal. Water (1995-2007) A Case Study Of Portharcourt.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this project was to look at the landings of the trawlers and artisanal fisheries from 1995- 2007 and to find out the species composition of both. Data for the research were collected from the fishers through personal interview and form past publications of annual report Journals. The data were tabulated and analyzed using graphs and t test. At the end of the project it was found out that a total of 1,264, 399 (tonnes) of fish were landed by trawlers while the artisanal fisheries landed a total of 42,576.4 (tonnes) of fish. According to the analy&s-carried out to compare the variation between the trawler and artisanal fisheries, at the end of the rAlrl!lRt,ç)n it was gathered that from 1995-2004, the t calculated is gicator than, the t- tabulated that means there is significance difeience d to the null hypothesis is rejected, (P<0.05) and from 2005-2009 the t. calculated is less than the t tabulated, which means there is no significance difference and the null hypothesis accepted.
