The Antidiabetic Effect Of The Methanolic Extract Of Parkia Biglobosa Stem Bark On Streptozotocin- Induced Hyperglycemic Albino Rats.

ABSTRACT

This Study was on the Anti-diabetic effect of Parkia Biglobosa on Streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. 20 both male and female albino rats were distributed into four groups. The normal control group, Drug control group, Diabetic control, and 250mg/kg of the plant extract . They were fed with normal feed. The result from the study shows there is a significant increase (p<0.05) on the Catalase, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), Superoxide Dismutase and glutathione. This study also shows that superoxide dismutase is p>0.05 which is not significant compared to the control. The effect parkia biglobosa on oral glucose tolerance test were determined in hyperglycaemic rats.The extract showed a significant (p<0.05) decrease in blood glucose level in hyperglycaemic rats OGTT when compared to the distilled water group. The extract has an effect on parkia biglobosa at 250mg/kg. However, this study shows that the extract antihyperglycemic activities and could be used as a potential source of novel antidiabetic agent for the management of diabetes melitus.
