ABSTRACT

This study investigates the perception ofstudents ofAbia State University of the Multip e Choice (MCQ) Examination system. The purpose was to find out whether this examination system had boosted students' achievement, encouraged early release of results, improved students' study habit, reduced sorting/extortion, minimized examination malpractice and brought female sexual harassment by lecturers to as halt two(2) research questions were asked and two (2) hypotheses were tested. A 26-item questionnaire was used to elicit response from students. The research questions were analyzed using the mean (X) and ranks while chi square (X2) statistics was used as a tool for testing the hypotheses. The results revealed that most of the objectives of the study have been achieved by this system of examination except examination malpractice which is still a menace to the evaluation process and poor study habits. It is recommended that efforts should be made at reducing examination malpractices while encouraging improvement of study habits in order to consolidate the gains ofthis examination system.
