ABSTRACT

The existence of anomalous observations (unpresentative arid spurious values) in a set of data is of primary concern statistical procedures. For identification of such observations shall be studied and the effects of analysis considered. The general cases of Outlier problems and the variety of contexts in which they rise shall be reviewed. This s conc1ered to be observation which appears to be inconsistent with the remainder of that set of data. Intuitively it can be taken to be the observation that deviates so much from others so as to arouse suspicion that was generated by a different mechanism DICORDANCY TEST: This decides whether or not an outlier (or a set of outliers) to be regarded as a member of the main population on the basis of consistency with the given set of data.
