Staff Training and Development in Small-Scale Enterprises in Nigeria (Majio Plastic Industry, Aba):- lhemekwelam Ebere

ABSTRACT

Based on the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria, the small scale business could not make outright goals on their businesses due to bad performance and shortage of funds. This problem has led to the poor performances in all ramifications. The researcher therefore looks into staff; training and development as achieving goals in small scale business!, enterprises. The objective of the study is to highlight the importance of staff training and development in small-scale industries and also a way to achieve their goals. To investigate the greatest problems of small-scale enterprise in developing their strategic business plan. In collecting data for this research, two sources of data were used, secondary and primary data. Primary data were collected through interviews and questionnaires while secondary' data were collected from text books. The researcher used three hypotheses and was tested in order to shoe how staff training and development will help to improve small-scale enterprise. It was found out that most small scale enterprise do not run formal training and development programme. There was no formal training process within their establishment. They also find that most small-scale businesses have no' strategic plans. In order to improve on small-scale business, staff training and development will help them to achieve their goal, and also to formed a strategic plan that will guide their business to grow.
