ABSTRACT

This project was designed to take a field reconnaissance survey of areas affected by gully erosion and to identify the causes and extent of damage done to the soil by gully erosion in Arnawom Oboro, Ikwuano Local Government Area. f lie location of these sites was done with the help of a guiding map of the local government Area, with consultation with peoples and farmers in Amawom Oboro for effective and accurate identification of gully erosion sites. A total of six (6) gully erosion sites have been considered in this project. These prolninca erosion sites were identified on village basis and studied under the lollo in headings: Area of Basin, Area of Active gully, length and width ogull (active and stabilized portion), perimeter of gully (active and stabilized portion) ail maximum depth. It was found that gullies in Amawom Oboro developed mainly because of poor drainage channels on the roads. Their maximum depths ranged from l.34m to 5.00rn which shows that they are small and medium gullies generally within stage 2 and 3 (i.e. enlargement of gully head, width and depth and healing stage respectively). An erosion map was produced which sill guide and help at the construction phase of the project, and also be of immense use  students. Recommended control measures were made in each of the sites  implementation at the next phase of project construction. Thus, government. with individuals of Amawom Oboro, Ikwuano Local government Area should adopt the recommended gully erosion control measures that will solve the specific problem.
