Abstract

The study focused on the social environmentalfactors that influence the moral behaviour of adolescents in the secondary schools located in OwerriMunicipal area ofImo State. The sample was made up of450 adolescents drawnfrom nine (9) schoolsselectedfrom thepublic secondary schools in study area. Three research questions and hypotheses guided the study. Researchers made questionnaire captioned "Social Environmental Eactors and Moral Behaviour of Adolescent Students Questionnaire” (SEFMBASQ) was the instrument usedfor the study. The reliability coefficient ofthe instrument using Pearson product moment correlation was 0.75. Mean. SD and t-teststatistics were used to analyze data. Results showed that peer groups, mass media and religious groups are some of the social environmental[actors that strongly influence the moral behaviour ofadolescents. Based on the findings it was recommended thatgovernment andnon-governmental organisationsshouldorganise seminars to educate the adolescents on the negative andpositive effects ofpeergroup associations among otherrecommendations.
