ABSTRACT

The remediation ofsoil contaminated by palm oil mill effluent (POME)” was carried out at Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU). Three different locations of palm oil mill effluent site were selected within the area and soil sample were collected from the surface (0-15cm) and subsurface (15-30cm) according to standard. The analysis of chemical properties ofthe soil was carried out before and after remediation. Poultry manure collection from the poultry farm within MOUAU were used for the remediation. The results of the analysis were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and further separated using Duncan multiple test. The results show that the palm oil mill effluent had influence on the chemical properties .of the soil. The results also show that there is an increase in pH values after remediation and there is significant difference in the values ofmost ofthe soil chemical properties analyzed. It was observed that palm oil mill effluent can negatively affect the agricultural soil and hence the need for remediation.
