Problems And Prospects Of External Auditors In Auditing Nigerian Companies. (A Study Of Nigerian Port Plc)

ABSTRACT

This study examines the problems and prospects of external auditor in auditing Nigeria companies. A study of the Nigerian port plc. Auditors in the course of their jobs are often faced with situations. The use of judgment in the application of accounting rules, thus resulting in a lot of companies folding up. The study hence seeks to determine the nature of the problems the external auditors encounter in auditing Nigeria companies and their prospects. The population of this study is the staff members of the Nigerian port plc. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire designed in the five-response option of Like rt-scale. The data generated for this study were analyzed using Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The study reveals that improper bookkeeping by clients' staff constitutes a major setback to external auditors 'job and inadequate technical skill and training affect the auditor 's job adversely. Based on the above, it was concluded among others that auditors in Nigeria should maintain the level of professional integrity and ethical conduct expected of their profession. The study further recommends the external auditors should always ensure that their clients comply with changes that might have taken place, in auditing standard and guidelines through a constant review of their programmed procedures , file and quality control system.
