ABSTRACT

This study investigated various aspects of preservation of library information material in Abia State Library Board, Umuahia. The survey research design was adopted for the study. A population o/72 was used for the study. Complete census sampling technique was used to sample the entire population for the study. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Four objectives and four research questions were raised to guide the study and data was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage. The data analysis revealed that inadequate funding and lack of preservation policy are the major factors that hinder preservation of library information materials in Abia State Library Board. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Abia State Library Board should explore other means of funding where necessary; to improve preservation of library information materials and by extension, improve library services.
